Mikael Tarland-Petersson New Sales Manager for LIMS Solutions in Scandinavia
Mikael Tarland-Petersson has been appointed sales manager for Sapphire LIMS at Software Point. Mikael will work from our office in Malmö, Sweden beginning in January 2010. Mikael has respectable 20 years of experience of developing and selling IT-solutions especially for Hospitals and Healthcare Industry. He has been previously employed by Siemens Medical Solutions and Tieto Healthcare as Sales Manager from which position he changed to Software Point.
- Mikael, where do you see the benefits of modern LIMS solutions such as Sapphire LIMS for laboratories? M: I see a great benefit in the fact that the customers can grow with the solution, it is a modern and very flexible application on a modern platform. Most of the existing systems on the Scandinavian Healthcare laboratory market are very mature and they are in "silo" configuration, i.e. one system with a separate database for Chemistry, one for Pathology, one for Microbiology etc. This is not supporting the current and ongoing changes on the market. Other benefits can be found in automatization which will cut costs, in process control and of course quality control issues.
- What will be the major changes in the laboratory environment in the near future? M: On the Healthcare market major changes are consolidation and automation. Laboratories will merge. The instruments manage more and more different analyzes per instrument, which leads to hardware decrease and software increase. On the manufacturing industry market, I believe we can be part of their migration to low salary countries. Analyses may take place on the other side of the planet and results used very far away from the laboratory.
- How can we respond to those changes? M: By listening carefully and making sure we have a constant communication with laboratories in order to create solutions which help our customers to respond to changes.
- Other important topics? Remarks? M: The idea of customized turnkey solutions, like in the Swedish Biobank register solution, attracts me very much. It simplifies and speeds up implementations and hence lowers the costs. It will be a big advantage for our customers! We also see that in the national healthcare it is getting more and more important to implement new modern solutions.
